Today brought to you by the letter "G"

Goodwill Goodies and Go Giants! making the world series!!!

The hubby and I had quite a rainy day adventure today.

It started off a little rocky as I woke up with a migraine but by the end of a scrumptious breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants I was doing pretty well.

Our next stop was the big, beautiful Goodwill downtown. Most in this city, being this city are way over priced and more like fancy consignment shops than the good deals I'm used to. This one however is awesome, huge, great selection and great prices.

I was there in search of some costume elements for the Christmas musical my church is doing. I'm one of the people who have to come up with an example to show the rest of the choir in a few weeks so they know how to do it themselves. I found 1 (1!) skirt but in the process I came up with a great idea to get the volume I need for the skirts.

I also found some wonderful goodies, including a scarf I'm going to use as a table runner or to drape on top of my hutch (.99 cents, cant go wrong and looks really nice with my new table topper) some really cute handmade place mats ( a set of 4 for a $1.99),a bag of buttons for a dollar! (yay buttons! now I just need to find a bigger button tin), and this really cool table top metal votive holder that I'm seriously considering mounting to the wall and using as a coat rack (my husband thinks I'm crazy) just in case I stick with it's intended use I found some yummy smelling pumpkin spice votive candles at Ross.

We also perused some other stores and ended up going to see Secretariat (really good, just perfect for the day). Overall it was a great rainy day spent with my husband, just the 2 of us with no where to rush to, just what we both needed.

buttons!!
the way it's intended, we'll see if it stays that way
these just made my day, one had some sort of label one them for something called the maryknoll seedling of hope, who knows?

the polka dots are navy, just too cute. I think I've entered some sort of retro kitchy phase, we'll see how long it lasts.

blogger still hates me and it wont publish the font or color the way I tell it to. Does anyone know whats wrong or how to fix it?

I'm here

I'm still here, just extremely busy. Last week I got an awesome job and I've hit the ground running. between starting the new job, the wedding last weekend, church, bible study and PIQF this girl is busy.

I'm super excited about the job, its a fantastic nanny job for 2 adorable almost 2 years and it's a huge blessing to my family. This last year has been quite the obstacle course of ups and downs and I am just so thankful to God for His perfect timing as always.

I still have that fall quilt I want to get done before Thanksgiving (which I get paid off as well as the day after, thank you very much :-)) I'm hoping once I figure out my new schedule and my weekends become free again I'll have time to get some stuff done.

I also think PIQF will do wonders for some inspiration, as always

Fall Fun

When Looking for pictures of PIQF I found some pictures from when we went last year to this great pumpkin patch back home last year.

It's called the Avila Valley Barn. It's open all year and you can pick berries, pumpkins, apples. they have fresh produce, bakery, a petting zoo and fresh roasted corn on the cob, and its just fun.

So much great fall inspiration, makes me wish we'll have time when we're home this weekend to go. Between stars wedding and my grandfathers 80th birthday on 10-10-10 I don't think we'll have time. oh but how good a boysenberry pie sounds, or a pumpkin turnover or apple crisp. ok, I must stop

Chocolate Oatmeal Bars

Ok as I promised a recipe. I originally found this from One more Moore, she has some great recipes that I want to try but so far this one has been the only one I have, with fantastic results.

Chocolate Oatmeal Bars

Mix:

1 C Brown Sugar

1 C Granulated Sugar

1 C Butter

2 eggs

Then add:

2 C Flour

3 C Oatmeal

1 tsp Baking Soda

Press 1/2- 3/4 of the mixture into the bottom of a 9" x 13" pan.

Over low heat, in a small saucepan melt:

6 oz chocolate chips

1/2 C Butter

1 tsp. Vanilla

1 can sweetened condensed milk

Pour the chocolate mixture into the 9" x 13" pan over the oatmeal mixture.

Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the top. Bake @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Allow to cool (at least an hour) before cutting. I usually do these the night before and put them in the fridge overnight, it helps alot. But I know how it is if you can't wait.

if you have it, lining the pan with wax paper makes life much easier.

Now the one's pictured have been tweaked. I've been messing around with changing things and introducing new flavors. These one's I added half a cup of Ghiradelli cocoa to the oat mixture and replaced the butter with peanut butter. They're just as evil this way as the original. Trust me though, try the originals first. They'll fly like hot cakes. And I will know, I may or may not have had 2 for breakfast.maybe.

Super E

Another present. This time for an adorable little boy for his first birthday that happens to be today.I'll give it to him at his party Sunday. I'm slowly (well a little quicker now) learning that a project doesn't always have to be this big grand thing for it to be fun and in this case adorable.
